On Saturday, November 28, 2026, one stretch of St. Petersburg's waterfront hosts two of the city's biggest crowds about eight hours apart. LocalShops1's Shopapalooza opens at Vinoy Park, 701 Bayshore Drive NE, at 10 a.m. and closes at 5 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., the city's 98th Annual Santa Parade leaves Albert Whitted Park, and the tree lighting at North Straub Park follows. The official logistics for both events are written for people coming from the south, out of downtown garages. Snell Isle sits to the north, past North Shore Park. That turns the day around for anyone starting here.
The Day as the Organizers Drew It
Shopapalooza's own directions start with a disclaimer. The stretch of Bayshore Drive in front of Vinoy Park is closed to traffic both days of the festival, so drivers can't pull up to the park. They're told to park in a garage and walk in. The three suggested garages are all downtown: SouthCore Garage at 101 1st Ave S, Sundial Garage at 117 2nd St N, and Plaza Tower Garage on 1st St N.
The free trolley runs from SouthCore only. It operates 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on November 28 and 29, comes about every 15 minutes, and every trolley has a wheelchair lift. The pickup is on Second Street South between Central Avenue and First Avenue South, and the drop-off is on the north side of 7th Ave NE, just west of Bayshore.
All of this is built for people coming up from Central Avenue. The 11.3-acre festival draws makers and shoppers from across Tampa Bay, and the plan sends them into the core first and then north to the park.
The organizers put it plainly: "If you live within walking, running, skating, or biking distance, even better; leave the car at home." For Snell Isle, that line is the whole transportation plan.
Coming In From the North Shore Side
Without a car, the trolley and garages stop mattering, and the trip becomes a walk or ride along the water toward Vinoy Park. One caveat applies to drivers who need accessible parking. Shopapalooza lists accessible spaces near the baseball field in North Shore Park, between Snell Isle and the festival, but warns that they fill quickly. If someone in your group needs one of those spaces, arrive near the 10 a.m. opening rather than at midday. Our guide to North Shore Park's overlapping schedules covers how the park's other users share that ground on a normal weekend.
Arriving early helps for another reason. According to the St. Pete Catalyst's preview, several features are tied to timing or to being there in person:
- A $500 shopping spree each day. Entry is free but requires registration, and the winner must be present to collect.
- A community mural with PhiPhi Artland. Walk-ups are welcome as space allows, and painting slots can be booked ahead.
- Booth specials. Many vendors plan BOGOs, holiday pricing, and merchandise not yet sold elsewhere. The full list of 350-plus vendors goes up at shopapaloozafestival.com by November 1.
- The Adoptable Pet Parade and Kidpreneurs Row, plus a Kids Zone run by Sensory Studio with crafts, music playtime, and photos with princesses and Santa.
The festival is pet friendly for well-behaved dogs on leashes. For a household on the island, that means the dog can come along on foot without a car ride.
The food is spread across four food halls with more than 40 restaurants, bakeries, and food trucks. There's also a local beer garden, with all proceeds going to the nonprofit Jump for Kids. Razin Jane, Ashley Lux Band, Dames, HeadlessAx, Element, and Sunset Bridge Band are on the main stage. New this year is a second stage called Dockside Sessions, presented by Your Boat for the Day, with acoustic sets and live painting by artists including Alyssa Dunlap and Zulu Painter. That second stage is part of the new monthlong Art Everywhere celebration, funded by a Creative Pinellas grant. This year's nonprofit partners are St. Pete Youth Farm and Jump for Kids.
The 90 Minutes Between Closing Time and the Parade
Shopapalooza closes at 5 p.m. and the parade steps off at 6:30. That gap is the one part of the day the official materials leave to you.
Shopapalooza's directions mention that the city will be setting up for the holiday parade that Saturday. They say the setup mostly affects vendor load-out later in the day and that shoppers shouldn't notice much. So late afternoon on Bayshore will have vendors packing up while parade crews set up.
The most recent published route, from 2025, ran the parade along Bayshore Drive from Albert Whitted Park to 5th Avenue NE, with the tree lighting afterward at North Straub Park. The city's 2026 listing gives the start point, time, and tree-lighting park, but no street closures or closure times. If 2026 follows 2025, the parade would finish at 5th Avenue NE, two blocks south of the 7th Avenue NE corner where the festival trolley stops.
Here is how the Saturday lines up from Snell Isle, using only published times:
| Time | What's happening | Source detail |
|---|---|---|
| 8:00 a.m. | Downtown Looper weekend service begins | Free, every 15 to 20 minutes |
| 9:30 a.m. | Shopapalooza trolley begins at SouthCore Garage | Trolley stops at 6 p.m. |
| 10:00 a.m. | Shopapalooza opens at Vinoy Park | Bayshore closed in front of the park |
| 5:00 p.m. | Shopapalooza closes | Vendor load-out overlaps parade setup |
| 6:30 p.m. | Santa Parade leaves Albert Whitted Park | 2025 route followed Bayshore to 5th Ave NE |
| After the parade | Tree lighting at North Straub Park | 2026 entertainment details not yet posted |
| 10:00 p.m. | Looper weekend service ends | Stops at the Vinoy Hotel and North Straub Park |
The Looper rows matter most for the evening. PSTA's downtown map shows the free Downtown Looper stopping at the Vinoy Hotel, listed as stop 1, and at Beach Drive and North Straub Park, listed as stop 20. On Saturdays and Sundays it runs every 15 to 20 minutes from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. That links the tree lighting back to the Vinoy end of the waterfront well after the festival trolley stops at 6 p.m.
That gives a Snell Isle household three ways to spend the 90 minutes. You can go home and come back after dark. You can stay near the Vinoy for an early dinner; our look at what changed at the Vinoy this year covers the options at the foot of Snell Isle Boulevard. Or you can walk south and claim a spot along Bayshore before the crowd gathers.
What Isn't Posted Yet
Several pieces of the holiday season are still unannounced as of early October. The city's holiday page shows "Stay tuned for 2026 information!" over its waterfront lights listing. That listing names North Straub Park, South Straub Park, Pioneer Park, and the St. Pete Pier as display sites. In 2025 the displays ran from November 29 through January 1. If the 2026 schedule is similar, the lights could come on around the same weekend, but the city hasn't confirmed it.
Parade closures, tree-lighting entertainment, and the tree itself are also unpublished for 2026. The city's holiday events page is where those details will go first. Local groups and businesses that want to march have until Tuesday, November 17, to register.
If you ride a bike to the Pier side of the waterfront, the St. Pete Pier says it has extensive bike parking and access by the Downtown Looper and Central Avenue Trolley. That's year-round Pier information, not parade guidance, but it's the only published bike-parking detail for that part of the waterfront.
Shopapalooza founder Ester Venouziou describes the 16th edition as a weekend that "kicks off the holiday shopping season by celebrating the great independent businesses that make Tampa Bay such an amazing place." Most of the region will reach it from a parking garage. Snell Isle can get there on foot, so the day's planning comes down to the gap between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The busy run of events that comes earlier in the month is covered in our post on Snell Isle's first two weeks of November.
